What is a Swedish massage?
Swedish massage is the gentle, flowing style most people picture when they hear the word massage. Long sweeping strokes glide along the back, shoulders, arms, and legs. Pressure stays light to medium. The pace is slow and steady, never sharp or jolting. The point is to slow your nervous system down so your shoulders drop, your jaw unclenches, and your breath gets deeper.
It is one of the oldest and most studied styles in the world. At Susie Oriental Massage Spa on Imperial Hwy in La Habra, our professional therapists use it for first-time guests, anyone who feels stretched thin from work, and folks who simply want an hour where nobody asks them anything. There is no pressure to talk, no upsell, no membership pitch. You lie down, the lights go low, and we take it from there.
Who is Swedish massage good for?
It is the easiest place to start if you are new to massage. The pressure is forgiving, the rhythm is calm, and there is nothing intense or surprising. Good fits include:
- First-timers who do not know what kind of massage to ask for
- Office workers from La Habra, Brea, and Fullerton with stiff shoulders from sitting at a desk all week
- Parents and caregivers who just need an hour where nobody needs anything from them
- Travelers who flew in to LAX or John Wayne Airport and want to unwind before dinner
- Couples who want a side-by-side wind-down in our larger private room
- Anyone with general stress, mild tension, or trouble sleeping who wants to switch off
If you have intense knots in your back or pain that has been nagging for weeks, you may want a deep tissue massage instead, or a blend of both. Just tell your therapist when you arrive and they will adjust the pressure.
What to expect at our La Habra spa
The whole visit usually takes about ten minutes longer than the session itself. From parking lot to private room is honestly under five minutes if we are not full. Here is the rough flow:
- Arrive at Suite B. Free parking is right outside our door on Imperial Hwy. No meter, no garage, no walking blocks.
- Tell us what you want. Pick 30 or 60 minutes. Tell us if there are sore spots to focus on or if you want a head-to-toe relaxation flow.
- Settle in. Your therapist will guide you to a clean private room with soft warm lighting, fresh sheets, and a heated table. They leave the room while you change to your comfort level.
- The massage. Long flowing strokes from the back down to the legs, then up through the arms and shoulders. Most people fall into a half-asleep state within ten minutes.
- Pay and leave. Cash or card at the front. Tips appreciated, never required. Most regulars come back every two to four weeks.
The first ten minutes are about helping your body remember what slowing down feels like. The rest is just keeping that going.
Ready to book?
Walk in any day 9 AM โ 10 PM, or call ahead.
Pricing and how long it lasts
Pricing is simple, posted at the front door, and never changes based on who you are or what time you walk in:
- 30 minutes โ $40 โ focused on your back, shoulders, and neck. Great for a quick reset on lunch break or after work.
- 60 minutes โ $60 โ full body Swedish flow including back, shoulders, neck, arms, hands, legs, and feet. Most popular for first-timers and weekly regulars alike.
- Couple session โ $120 for two people for 60 minutes in our larger room. Perfect for date nights or wind-downs with a friend.
That is it. No membership, no auto-renewal, no service fees on top. We accept cash and major credit cards. Most guests tip in cash, around 15 to 20 percent. Tips are appreciated but never required and never expected.
Walking in vs calling ahead
You can do either. Most folks just walk in. The reason we run as a no appointment massage spa is because that is what works best for our local crowd in La Habra, Brea, Fullerton, and Whittier. People know they can stop by after work, after the gym, or on a Saturday afternoon and almost always get a private room within ten minutes.
If you want to lock in a specific time, especially Friday or Saturday evening, just call 818-660-6999. We will hold a room. There is no deposit, no booking fee, and no penalty if your plans change. For a couples massage in our larger room, calling ahead is smart so we can guarantee the room is open.
Swedish vs deep tissue
This is the question we hear most often. The short answer:
- Pick Swedish if you want to relax, switch off, sleep better, or are new to massage. Pressure is light to medium.
- Pick deep tissue if you have specific muscle pain, tight shoulders, lower back tension, or chronic knots that need real work. Pressure is firmer.
- Pick a blend if you want general relaxation but with extra focus on one or two sore spots. Just tell your therapist when you arrive.

Why Swedish massage works for almost everyone
Swedish massage has been studied more than almost any other style. The slow rhythm and predictable strokes do something measurable to your nervous system: heart rate slows, breathing deepens, and the muscle layer that protects your spine and shoulders starts to soften within about twelve minutes. You do not need to know any of that to feel the benefit. You will just notice your jaw is no longer clenched and your shoulders are sitting two inches lower than when you walked in.
Folks who try it for the first time at our La Habra spa often say the same thing afterward: "I did not realize how tense I was." That is the point. Most of us walk around with low-grade tension we have stopped noticing because it is just how our bodies feel by Wednesday. A 60 minute Swedish session resets that baseline. The relief usually lasts three to five days, sometimes longer for people who get one regularly.
Common reasons our regulars come back
- Better sleep. Many guests sleep deeper the night after a Swedish session, especially when they come in late afternoon or early evening.
- Less low-back nagging. Long flowing strokes along the back ease the muscles that hold up your spine all day, especially for desk workers and drivers.
- Headache relief. A lot of tension headaches start at the base of the skull. Twenty minutes of focused work there often quiets them.
- Mood reset after a hard week. Not a substitute for therapy or rest, but a real, fast way to shift gears on a Friday evening.
- Recovery between workouts. Lighter than deep tissue, but still helps fresh muscle soreness flush out faster.
Coming from nearby?
Our Swedish massage regulars come from all around La Habra and the surrounding cities. From Brea, hop west on Imperial Hwy for about eight minutes via SR-57 access roads. From Fullerton, head north on SR-57 to the Imperial Hwy exit, about ten minutes total. From Whittier, take Whittier Blvd east for around twelve minutes. From La Mirada, head south on Beach Blvd from the I-5 to Imperial Hwy, about nine minutes. Each route ends at the same free parking lot right outside Suite B.
For more on what to expect from each route or what your first session will feel like, see our first-time massage guide, our walk-in vs appointment piece, or the full La Habra massage guide. Each one digs deeper into one part of the experience so you know exactly what you are walking into when you arrive at our door.
What our regulars tell us
Most of our regular guests in La Habra and the surrounding cities tell us the same kinds of things, year after year. Three themes come up the most often:
- "It feels like a real local spot, not a chain." Because we are not a chain. We are a small studio with the same friendly therapists you see every visit.
- "The pricing is honest and stays the same." No surprise upsells, no service charges added at checkout, no membership pitch when you walk in.
- "I can just walk in after work." Open until 10 PM seven days a week means you do not need to plan a week ahead. Stop by when you need it.
If something about your visit is not perfect, please tell us at the front. We have built a local reputation on doing things the right way, and we want every guest to leave better than they walked in. Friendly faces from La Habra, Brea, Fullerton, Whittier, and La Mirada keep coming back, and that is the highest compliment our small team can earn each week, every season, every year.
If you are not sure which one to pick, start with Swedish. You can always go deeper next time.
Walk in any day from 9 AM to 10 PM at 151 E Imperial Hwy Suite B in La Habra. Call 818-660-6999 if you want to hold a room. We are here seven days a week, no appointment needed, with the same honest pricing every visit.
