What to Expect at Your First Massage at Susie Spa

From the parking lot to the door โ€” a clear, honest walk-through of what really happens during your first visit, written for first-time guests at our La Habra spa.

Most first-time massage guests are a little nervous walking in. Will it be awkward? What do I wear? What if it's too firm? What if I fall asleep? These are the same questions we hear at our front desk every week. The good news is that the entire experience at Susie Oriental Massage Spa in La Habra is designed to remove every possible source of awkwardness or surprise. Here's exactly what to expect.

Booking or walking in

Both work. We're a true walk-in spa on Imperial Hwy, so most first-time guests just stop by. Weekday afternoons are our quietest hours, and Friday or Saturday evenings are busiest. If we're full when you arrive, the wait for a private room is usually under fifteen minutes.

If you'd feel calmer knowing the time is locked in, call 818-660-6999 ahead. We'll hold a room. There's no booking fee, no deposit, and no penalty if your plans change. Many first-time guests prefer to call so the whole visit feels planned, while others like the spontaneity of walking in. Either way works the same once you arrive.

First-time facts: $40 for 30 min ยท $60 for 60 min ยท Open 7 days 9 AM โ€“ 10 PM ยท 151 E Imperial Hwy Suite B, La Habra, CA 90631 ยท Free parking ยท Cash and card accepted.

Arriving at Suite B

We're at 151 E Imperial Hwy, Suite B. The spa sits in a small plaza with a free private parking lot right outside our door. No meters, no garage, no walking blocks. Pull up close, lock your car, walk in. The front door opens into a small calm lobby with seating for two or three people. You won't feel rushed or watched. Whoever's at the front desk will look up, smile, and ask how they can help. That's the start.

The check-in conversation

Check-in is short and casual. The questions you'll be asked:

  1. How long would you like? 30 or 60 minutes. 60 is more popular for first-timers.
  2. What style? Swedish, deep tissue, or hot oil. Just say "I'm new" โ€” we'll recommend Swedish.
  3. Any sore spots? Mention your shoulders, lower back, neck, or anywhere specific.
  4. Any health stuff we should know? Recent injuries, surgeries, allergies. We're not nosy โ€” just keeping you safe.

That's it. No long forms, no upsell, no pressure. The whole conversation takes about 90 seconds.

Changing in private

Your therapist will guide you to a clean private room with a closing door. Inside there's a heated massage table covered with fresh sheets, soft warm lighting, calm music at low volume, and a chair for your clothes and bag. The therapist explains briefly what to do, then leaves the room while you change.

You undress to your comfort level. Most guests keep underwear on. Some prefer fully covered. Some go without. All are completely normal and your therapist has zero opinion either way. Lie face-down on the table and pull the sheet over you. The therapist knocks before re-entering. They'll only fold the sheet back over the area they're currently working on.

The single most important thing to know: you're in control of your comfort the entire time.

The session itself

For a 60 minute Swedish massage, the rough flow is:

  1. 0 โ€“ 5 min: Warm-up strokes on your back. Your body starts to settle.
  2. 5 โ€“ 25 min: Deeper work on the back, shoulders, and neck.
  3. 25 โ€“ 35 min: Backs of legs, calves, and feet.
  4. 35 โ€“ 50 min: Flip face up. Fronts of legs, arms, hands.
  5. 50 โ€“ 60 min: Head, scalp, neck, and a final pass on the shoulders.

You'll probably drift in and out of awareness. That's normal and is exactly the goal. If anything feels too firm, too light, ticklish, or uncomfortable, just say so. Your therapist will adjust immediately. They want you to leave happy.

Paying and leaving

When the session ends, your therapist tells you they're stepping out and lets you take your time getting up. Sit on the edge of the table for a minute before standing โ€” most people are slightly lightheaded after their first massage. Get dressed slowly. There's water at the front desk if you want it.

Pay at the front. Cash or major credit cards. The price is exactly what was on the wall: $40 for 30 minutes, $60 for 60 minutes. Tips are appreciated and most guests give around 15 to 20 percent in cash directly to the therapist, but tips are never required. If you don't have cash, that's fine.

Common first-time worries

A few practical reminders

If this is your first time looking at our spa or comparing local options in La Habra, here are a few small but useful things to keep in mind. Our front desk is happy to answer any question before you commit to a session โ€” there is no pressure at all to book if you are still deciding. Walk in just to see the space and ask questions if that helps. Many regulars did exactly that on their first visit and only booked a session after seeing the lobby and asking a few questions about the rooms and pricing.

Our location is at 151 E Imperial Hwy Suite B, La Habra, CA 90631. Free private parking is right outside the door. We are open every day from 9 AM to 10 PM, including weekends and most holidays. Pricing is the same every visit: $40 for 30 minutes, $60 for 60 minutes, $80 for 30 minute couples, and $120 for 60 minute couples. Cash and major credit cards accepted. Tips appreciated in cash but never required.

For city-specific tips on coming over from Brea, Fullerton, Whittier, or La Mirada, we have dedicated pages for each city covering the best routes, easiest hours, and what regulars from that area tend to book most often. Each page also covers free parking, walk-in tips, and frequently asked questions specific to driving in from that location.

If you want to dig deeper before booking, our complete La Habra massage guide is the long-form overview that covers everything in one place โ€” services, pricing, walk-in flow, what to expect, frequency recommendations, and answers to twenty of the most common questions. It is the best single resource if you want a full picture before stopping by.

The best first massage is the one where you stop worrying within the first five minutes โ€” and we know how to make sure that happens.

Walk in any day from 9 AM to 10 PM at 151 E Imperial Hwy Suite B in La Habra. Call 818-660-6999 to lock in a time. For more reading see our long-form first-time massage guide, our Swedish vs deep tissue article, or the complete La Habra massage guide.

Frequently Asked

What people often ask first.

How early should I arrive for my first massage at Susie Spa?
Five to ten minutes before your session is plenty for a first visit. That gives time to use the restroom, fill out the short check-in conversation, and walk into the room without feeling rushed. If you're walking in without booking, plan on the same buffer plus a possible short wait if we're busy. Most weekday afternoons we have a private room ready immediately. Friday and Saturday evenings can have a 5 to 15 minute wait, so calling 818-660-6999 ahead is helpful when you're nervous about timing for your first visit.
Will my therapist see me undress at Susie Spa?
No. Your therapist leaves the room while you change. They knock before re-entering and only enter once you say you're ready. During the session, you stay covered with a clean sheet the entire time. Your therapist only folds the sheet back over the specific area they're working on, then re-covers it before moving to the next area. This is called draping and it's standard at every trained massage spa in California. Your privacy and comfort are protected from start to finish, every visit.
Do I have to tip on my first massage?
Tips are appreciated but never required at our La Habra spa. If you choose to tip, the standard is around 15 to 20 percent of the session price โ€” about $8 to $10 on a 30 minute session at $40, or $12 to $15 on a 60 minute session at $60. Cash is preferred because it goes directly to your therapist. Card tips are also fine at the front desk. If you forgot cash and don't want to tip on your card, that's completely okay. We want you to come back regardless of tip.
What should I do right after my first massage?
Take it easy. Most guests are mildly lightheaded right after their first session because their nervous system shifted into a deep relaxation state. Drink a glass of water before you drive. Skip a heavy meal in the next hour โ€” light food is better. A warm shower at home a few hours later feels great. Try to go to sleep a little earlier than usual that night because most people sleep deeper after their first massage. Avoid intense exercise for the rest of the day to let your body fully process the session.
Can I bring my phone into the massage room?
Yes, but we strongly recommend silencing it. The whole point of the session is to disconnect from work, messages, and the outside world for an hour. Most guests put their phone on silent or do-not-disturb mode and leave it in their bag or on the chair. There is a place in every private room to set your belongings. If you're expecting an emergency call, just tell your therapist at check-in and they'll pause the session if your phone rings. Most first-time guests are surprised how good a phone-free hour feels.

Stressed? Stiff? Just need a minute?

You do not need an appointment. Just call, or walk in any day from 9 AM to 10 PM.
